Those having problems with 8.5 and not being able to update may need to turn off Link Scanner Components. Once I did this then everything was back to normal and was able to update.

I just downloaded the AVG Free 8.5.325.1500 and it cannot seem to update the following security components: Anti-Virus Database and the Anti-Spyware. I tried to click the update now button but it keeps on bouncing back and it reads, Error: cannot find the server. Please advice on how to correct and perhaps update these components..., Thanks!

I have the new free avg 7.5 and I keep getting these pop ups saying that I better download the new avg 8.0 because the 7.5 is going to expire but when I do, it goes through everything and tells me that the license is changed over then gives me some spanish words and shuts down and when it reboots it didnt do anything! Since puchasing avg 8 I have had nothing but problems.All the time up comes a box firewall profile switch a new or unassigned network was detected.choose the desired Firewall Profile
1.allow all
2.block all
3.standalone computer
4.small office or home comuter
then 2 more boxes
at last
assign profile or without profile.
I am not a computer wizard,do not understand computer language,since installing I am now being told windows is no longer providing I have received an e-mail from avg saying they are looking into my problem and no reply as yet.I am so angry that I have paid for this program which has ruined my use of my computer.I wish I had stayed with the free edition,it was easy to use and did a very good job.I want to re-install the free avg but cannot find it! Please somebody help.

Ver. 8 has nice new features but slows my PC considerably from boot to browsing compared to old ver. and I miss the convienient pop-up that let me cancel updatescanning easily when I am in a hurry.

AVG was great up to V7.5, but v8.0 is crap! 3 times slower, also slows down your browser and if you happen to have a slow PC, the background scanner will bring your system to a halt!
